Nice article and one that is both timely and relevant at my business.

At my workplace (e-commerce business), our boss wanted to ensure our operations and fulfilment was watertight to ensure we deliver what we promise. After several years we believe, and our customer feedback tells us, that we do this and this has been with little to no marketing activity.

Now my boss is eager to get marketing himself and for me who does more of the marketing, it makes it a damn sight easier when presenting him with a case! He knows and feels more comfortable that we can now market ourselves because we’ve earned the right to and can back it up.

I totally agree with you in that overpromising is completely wrong, it should be – underpromise and overdeliver!

Thanks for the useful tips too – I will take these on board
for future reference!

Gareth
