Personas can cover different objectives – from buyer behaviour, user experience, brand positioning, and then looking at B2B2C and end user behaviours. So helps to be clear what role you want your personas to play in helping your decision making. And there’s always the danger of being slaves to a persona – which can be based on limited information. As we know – asking people how they make decision is fraught with difficulties – as illustrated in Daniel Kahneman’s fabulous book, Thinking, Fast and Slow. So tread with caution, be clear about your objectives, and don’t rush development.

Personas are gold because they are such a powerful relevance tool for marketing.

Do you make a distinction between customer personas and customer segments?
